What you’ll find here
A neutral front door to independent guides, research and reporting on Portland school changes and the city elections, alongside official sources. NewsOregon helps you discover other people’s work and read the originals.
NewsOregon is not an advocacy site and does not promote or endorse candidates, ballot measures or positions on public issues.
Unofficial because NewsOregon is an independent project, not a publication of any school district, government or election office.
Mostly neutral because every source has some bias, including this one. NewsOregon aims for neutral, and “mostly” is the honest description of the result. Neutral is also a moving target: what reads as balanced today may not next year. That’s why the directories carry a review date and are updated rather than left to age.
“Mostly neutral” is also the label the directories give sources with no preferred outcome identified. NewsOregon holds itself to the same standard.
“Unofficial, Mostly Neutral” is a NewsOregon service mark.
Publisher’s statement
NewsOregon is published by Steven Rosenbaum, a Portland, Oregon resident.
Readers deserve to know who is behind the information they rely on, including where that person stands. The publisher does not hide his views. He shares his personal opinions openly on LinkedIn External · linkedin.com (opens in a new tab) and Facebook External · facebook.com (opens in a new tab), where readers are welcome to discuss politics with him.
Those opinions stay there. NewsOregon’s directories and automated updates are kept separate from them.
NewsOregon is an unofficial, independent project. Inclusion in NewsOregon is not an endorsement.

About the resource directory
The PPS directory brings together tools, publications and community resources, alongside official district sources:
- Mostly Neutral: resources without identified advocacy in the reviewed material.
- Advocacy: material arguing for a policy, plan, candidate or process.
- Official: material published or commissioned by the district or election authorities.
Projects are grouped by purpose and alphabetical within each group, with no featured tier. Official sources put frequently used links first.
- Credits: known authorship, purpose and supporting links.
- Context: known access limits, historical material, advocacy and disclosed AI use.
- Viewpoint: an assessment of reviewed material, not accuracy or quality. Unassessed does not mean neutral. Open “Context & sources” for the basis and original links.
Inclusion is not an endorsement. Project owners can request a correction, challenge a label or suggest an addition.
How we include sources
We include useful public resources about PPS and the election offices we cover: websites, relevant pages within larger sites, newsletters, PDFs and petitions. PAC status, organization size and viewpoint do not exclude a resource. We check relevance, publisher, dates and access; credit original work; and note known funding, affiliations and limitations.
Mirrored copies and repeat links are combined; distinct resources by related groups retain their own credits. Advocacy and editorial endorsements are labeled separately from news reporting. Listings are alphabetical within groups, not ranked. Coverage is expanding, not exhaustive. Suggest a source.
How to use it
Each directory has three tabs: Mostly Neutral, Advocacy and Official. These describe source status or stance; a tool, guide or newsletter can appear in any tab. Choose a tab, or search the PPS directory by project, creator or topic across all three. Open a project’s title or preview to visit its original website; external links show the destination domain. Screenshots are previews of other publishers’ work.
News coverage links to other publishers’ reporting. The Updates feeds are automated and separately labeled; launch roundups remain marked review pending.
Publisher removal requests
NewsOregon independently curates links to publicly accessible websites, reporting and civic resources. Inclusion does not imply affiliation with or endorsement by the listed creator.
We welcome corrections and concerns about attribution, copyright, privacy, safety or a listing’s presentation. We review removal requests individually and may update or remove directory listings, automated news links or citations where appropriate. NewsOregon retains editorial discretion; removal is not automatic.
Requests concerning screenshots or other reproduced material are considered separately from requests to remove a link or listing.
Please use our Feedback form to share a concern. Include the relevant website, article or listing addresses, explain the concern and identify your role if you represent the publisher or creator.
The publishing experiment

The other scenes—riverside recreation, school soccer, a classroom, a library ballot drop box and neighbors talking across a fence—are AI-generated conceptual illustrations. Each scene has its own imagined people; none depicts real people, classes or events.
